Preparing for takeoff

I had two international orders to ship today (New Zealand and Australia woo hoo!) for the shop and needless to say the preparation process makes the house a disaster. But it's really fun!

Re-use

I posted this notch tee about a week ago. I made it out of a sheet that I found at the goodwill. It's a blue striped seersucker. One side has a little sheenyness to it which I don't like, so I made it with the non-sheeny side facing outward. I've been making myself outfits out of sheets for a while now cuz it's cheap and dare I say eco-friendly. Hopefully other people will appreciate clothing made of sheets and drapes as much as I do! (Sound of Music style!)

More Paintings

My final year at school I was able to pursue my own painting projects in a sort of independant study. I enjoyed it very much. I pursued ideas of self consciousness, faith, human complexity, and storytelling while playing around with different textiles and media. Here are a few paintings from the year. These aren't the best pictures. But they're all I've got right now.

Am I not more valuable than they?

You can't be married and be a saint.

I wish I could just let go.

I hope that I will be able to paint more!

Sewn Gifts

I've been so busy sewing, dealing with my final finals, and moving into my new apartment that I haven't had time to post. I'm excited to start posting again.

Something I've been busy doing is making gifts! Fun fun fun. I made a bubblegum pink random fold skirt for a friend. And a baby blanket and wall hanging (patterns from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts) for a friend and her new baby! I changed the wall hanging pattern a bit. I'm so proud. My first foray into quilting.

And thanks to Amy Coles for taking the photos. Here's her wonderful blog.

Jobs are Thinning

I'm sorry, but I love this picture because I can't help but notice that as the iPod shrinks, Steve Jobs does too...

From an article in the Wall Street Journal. The caption reads: "Steve Jobs, shown here in photos taken in 2001, 2007 and 2008, said he is recovering from a 'hormone imbalance' that triggered his startling weight loss..."

I think the plummet in weight just from '07 to '08 is shocking. Come on Steve, get that pancreas back on the line. America needs you and your iPod for babies.

He's kind of cute that Steve Jobs... ? Is it bad if I think he looks most attractive when he's most emmaciated? ..okay.

Hope on the floor of the NY stock exchange

Every year on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, everyone on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange stop at 11:30am to sing Wait 'til the sun shines, Nellie. The tradition more or less started after the crash of 1929, bringing a little hope (and stress relief) from the singers.

Listen to the story now on NPR.

"Every day, the sun will come out."

Merry Christmas everyone!

I got a Betta Fish!

Maybe I wanted a betta because Emma Mccorquodale was sending me subliminal messages

Love the delicacy. Almost as good as Steve:

He's so much more indie than you would expect, no?

Fall Tones - Too late?

I love the deep browns/reds/oranges associated with fall. Is it too late to wear them? Eh, who cares.

Fabric Framing

What a creative, cheap way to decorate the walls. With all the useless swatches I have, I could have an exhibition.

Purl Patchwork would be a great place to find some pretty swatches

Puppy Cam

You know your life has hit a lull when you spend hours watching 6 puppies roll up in a big fluffy puppy ball to nap, twitch their ears, readjust their bottoms, and lick eachother.

Or maybe my life just needs a puppy...
